With the national community facing sobering evidence that aimed at controlling the AIDS epidemic might not be met, PNAC in collaboration with UNAIDS and NACP aimed to bring together NGOs, government, development agencies and media for a critical review of HIV and AIDS situation in Pakistan and its effects on the masses, the lives of the people living with HIV and AIDS and develop collaborative strategies for the future to effectively control the HIV and AIDS epidemic in the country.
The main purpose of this national dialogue was to mobilize civil society organization and enhance synergy and partnership amongst health and non-health sectors, government, development agencies and media to play effective roles in combating HIV and AIDS in Pakistan with PNAC, NACP and UNAIDS through active participation in “One Soul Movement”.
One Soul Movement – National Dialogue has four important pillars:
Rights Based Approach to avoid stigma and discrimination against
PLWHA
Capacity building priorities for providing care and support to high risk
group
Communicating with community
Mobilizing resources for HIV/AIDS programs.
The dialogue was conducted on 5-6 December 2005 at Holiday Inn Islamabad. Almost 170 delegates witnessed the success of the dialogue. It is hoped that the dialogue will be conducted on annual basis to keep going the efforts of combating HIV and AIDS on a broader level
