Service Package for JAIL Inmate Populations
- Geographical / Social mapping of jail inmates
- Hiring, training and supervision of staff and/or peer educators to undertake BCC activities
- Review and revision of BCC strategy and activities based on revised mapping, project experience and behavioral surveillance results
- Inclusion of condom education in BCC strategies, materials and activities
- Provision of condoms to peer educators for distribution to jail inmates
- Establishment of system for providing sterile injecting equipment and disinfectant materials, along with PHC services
- Provision of appropriate counseling and mental health services, or referral to such services
- Linkage and provision of referrals with local medical services (jail hospital / dispensary) on the medical care of jail inmates
- Inclusion of STI education in BCC strategies, materials and activities
- Provision of STI services including referral where appropriate
- Ensure that condom promotion and distribution are undertaken in local STI services used by jail inmates
- Inclusion of VCT education in BCC strategies, materials and activities
- Establishment and linkage with local VCT services to ensure that jail inmates have effective and appropriate access to services
- Monitoring the experience of jail inmates in accessing VCT services, and taking remedial actions in the VCT educational activities and with the VCT services where needed
- Inclusion of VCT education in BCC strategies, materials and activities
- Provision of VCT training to project staff to ensure accessible and acceptable services for jail inmates
- Monitoring of the experience of jail inmates in accessing VCT services, and taking remedial action for improving VCT educational activities and testing facilities
- Development of a plan to promote a more positive environment for HIV prevention, based on the information from mapping of MSM
- Undertaking advocacy and educational activities to promote understanding of local police officials and other public sector officers towards the importance of HIV prevention.
